How I Can Help
As a counsellor, I can help people learn more about themselves to improve their well-being by discovering what brings satisfaction, happiness and meaning to their lives. During the discussions in the sessions, people can discover why they are the way they are, what works for them, what gets in the way of achieving their goals and how they can overcome these obstacles.
Through counselling, I can help people change behaviours that are damaging to their lives and their relationships. I do this by helping them understand what causes the behaviours and discovering ways to change the unwanted behaviours. I also help people feel better about themselves (increasing self-esteem) by changing negative beliefs about themselves and others. Low self-esteem often causes people to make poor decisions or put up with bad treatment by others. I work with people who come to see me to make sense of a troubled or traumatic past so they can be happier in the present and the future.
The following are common comments that my counselling clients have said to me about the benefits of counselling:
Not being so hard on themselves
Discovering their positive traits and personal strengths
Understanding themselves and the people in their lives better
Improved relationships with family and friends
Feeling more hopeful about the future
Overcoming depression
Feeling less anxious
Learning to eat in ways that feed their physical needs rather than using food to suppress unpleasant emotions
Learning to set realistic goals for themselves
